Carbon Footprint Initiatives
As a compliant member of the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) initiative, we are committed to a number of energy saving standards across our group. This in turn reduces our carbon footprint. Carbon footprinting measures the amount of greenhouse gas emissions (including carbon Dioxide) produced by the things we do from washing our hair to driving a car. We all leave a carbon footprint on the environment.
The WEE Directive aims to reduce the amount of electrical and electronic equipment being produced and to encourage everyone to reuse, recycle and recover it. The WEEE Directive also aims to improve the environmental performance of businesses such as ours that manufacture, supply, use, recycle and recover electrical and electronic equipment.
Energy Saving Features of Our Vending Machines
- Our Evolution hot drinks machine, our Genesis table top coffee machine and the Bevmax 4 chilled drinks vending machine all benefit from A++ energy efficiency rating. Many of our other vending machines are highly energy efficient
- Our machines have energy efficient standby modes that commence after a programmable period of non-use
- Adjustable product temperature settings
- Dual temperature settings for the top and bottom halves of combo drink and snack machines
- Ideal areas of the vending machine with products that don't need chilling such as crisps
- Cooling fans that switch into standby mode when not needed
- Active use of our Economiser monitor which measures the energy output of any of our vending machines
- We use energy-saving light bulbs wherever possible in all of our snack, can and hot drink vending machines.
Other WEEE Directive Measures in Our Business
- SnackTime VMI actively use the Think 3e Group who recycle vending machines using the skills of retrained workers with a criminal record
- We reuse as many vending machine parts as possible in other vending machines
- We promote a policy of refurbishing, recycling and reusing vending machines where possible and installing them in customer sites that are happy to receive a recycled as-new vending machine
- All our operator routes are calculated to be as energy efficient as possible to reduce vehicle run time. In London, we use motorbikes as much as possible for our engineers and field staff to reduce vehicle running time in traffic and to save fuel
- Operators are trained to provide first line fixes of equipment to keep the number of engineering calls, and therefore vehicle journeys, to a minimum
- The SnackTime VMI group has been investigating the use of electric cars and is working towards the possible replacement of its fleet when electric cars become a commercially viable option
- It is our company policy to change our fleet on a 3 yearly basis to suitable vehicles which have the lowest carbon emissions
- We encourage our customers to adopt a fully managed vending service which involves the refilling of plastic canisters throughout the life cycle of the machines therefore reducing the amount of package waste.
